Ghost Town?????? or not
While we were up in Gavin Hot springs over Memorial weekend we decided to take a jaunt over to this Ghost Town not to far away called SilverCity. My mother and father-in-laws had visited about 30 years ago and raved about it. Its up in the mountains and the road is closed most of the winter because only this thin dirt road can get to it. When we got there we discovered it wasn't so Ghost Town-Like anymore. The last 30 years people had been buying up all the abandoned houses and fixing them up to live in. We were shocked to find a pretty thriving little town back there. They explained to us that twice a year they put on a open house where all the houses are open for tours but besides that they are all closed...what a rip!!!! oh well it was pretty cool to see all the old buildings..they have historical codes and neighborhood regulations to keep them up a certain way...can't do much of remodeling unless its to restore. It was pretty funny, one of the owners said they have to keep their doors locked throughout the day because some people don't realize people live in the houses and would just walk right in and catch someone shaving in their boxers.
Here is the view as we were driving back down.
Here is the Church building.
Here is an old telegraph office.
Here is an old mason lodge. It's built over the river. pretty cool!
